It was Daryl’s second day of work at Looker in January 2019, and she wasted no time jokingly asking her table mates if any of the men walking up to the stage to receive performance awards were single, good-looking bachelors. Luckily, Jonathon was receiving an award, and he happened to know the guy (Bill) sitting right next to Daryl when she asked. Bill couldn’t WAIT to play match-maker and thought that Jonathon looked and acted like Nick Miller from a TV series called the New Girl. Ensuing quite the interesting introduction. Bill: “Nick, meet Daryl. Daryl, meet Nick!” Jonathon: “Hi, I’m Jonathon.” Daryl’s face was rightfully confused, and Jonathon was stunned, standing there in awkward silence, not knowing how to walk back from being introduced as a different name. Bill looked back and forth between the two, loving watching the awkward silence build, and then leaned in to help out… Bill: “This is the part where you ask to go and buy her a drink.” Jonathon: “The drinks are free, Bill. Oh… I mean Daryl, would you like a drink? I’m buying?” Luckily for them, they both love these awkward moments, and are always looking for opportunities to laugh through them; whether at the other or at themself. They chatted for hours, in what seemed like minutes, and as they say “the rest is history.” Over the course of the next several years, they kissed in the rain; moved in together (with the next day being the first of a pandemic quarantine - it was either going to work or it wasn’t); adopted their pup, Rufus; and are now looking forward to all the future moments to come!
